Labor Day and Late Summer Corn Chowder

Labor Day and Late Summer Corn Chowder

The funny thing about Labor Day and the start of school is that even though it’s the end of summer it’s still summer weather. I remember longing to wear boots and sweaters to school in September and sweltering if I did! My daughter struggled with the same dilemma today. Here in Oregon, public school starts […]

Tuna Salad, Then and Now

July 24, 2013 Maria Stuart 4 Comments

Someone asked recently “What’s your earliest food memory?” I was able to nail it pretty quickly – tuna fish salad. I was about 2 1/2 years old and we were living in a temporary (furnished?) apartment in Jacksonville, Florida. My Dad – then working for Ford Motor Company – had been transferred from Michigan to […]

What to do with Fava Beans

What to do with Fava Beans

It wasn’t until I was an adult that I discovered the wonder of Favas. When Rob and I moved to McMinnville in 1994 we quickly became regulars at our local Italian restaurant – the legendary Nick’s Italian Cafe. The first day of that first spring that Fava beans appeared on the menu, everyone was a-buzz with […]

Behold the Artichoke

Behold the Artichoke

Artichokes. In all their mysterious, prickly splendor artichokes are a beautiful thing to behold and somewhat magical to eat, leaf by leaf. Green Soup – kind of like a smoothie, but better

I am not a huge fan of green smoothies. I know they’re all the rage with heath-concious people like myself. All of that raw green goodness is guaranteed to help you lose weight, have more energy, enjoy a better mood, have better sex and live forever. Wow! What’s not to like? Meh. I don’t know. […]

Hello!

Hi, I'm Maria. My husband and I own a winery in downtown McMinnville, the heart of Oregon's spectacular Willamette Valley.

Lucky for me I get to cook for the people I love, throw parties and pour a little Pinot. Nothing makes me happier than gathering people around my table and serving them food that nourishes both body and soul.

People often tell me that I'm living their dream life. And truthfully, I'm living mine too.

But let's be real, it's still life.
